Teenage cat killer may get 158 years in state prison

Floridian Teenage Cat Killer may get 158 years in state prison

What the hell is wrong with the USA? No seriously.

I mean, I understand that this guy probably has some issues, and killing cats is bad or whatever, but 158 years for a bunch of cats? Seriously?

I mean, a cat is worth something like $500 on average I guess, if that. This kid steals and destroys something like $10,000 of cat. To my estimates (at $500 per cat), that means he’s eligible for one year in prison for every $60.13 of damage that he caused.

Since when did animal lives become worth so much, and more importantly, since when did human lives become worth so little?

You do realize that this type of behavior is very common in serial killers? Jeffery Dahmer tortured and mutilated animals. This shows that this little punk has very little respect for life and will probably move on to humans if given the opportunity. I hope he does get 158 years for the pain he caused these pet owners and to save any pain he would cause the people he may have hurt in the future. They caught a serial killer before his time. Good.

This is sort of my point (about how ridiculous the mindset of the average American is).

The kid is eighteen years old, and I think that his rehabilitation is definitely possible, given the right treatment. I think this kid is a late bloomer for sure, but as far as animal cruelty, I’m pretty sure it’s more common than you’d like to believe. Ever stir up an ants nest when you were young? Torn the legs off of a grasshopper? Poured salt on a slug? Are you now a serial killer?

I think that it’s reasonable that under civil court, this kid could very well be found guilty and made responsible in a monetary sense, but to give him any amount of prison time for this is simply ludicrous. The bottom line is that valuing animal life at a level even resembling human life is a slippery slope, and I’m pretty sure I don’t want to end up in a world the way PETA envisions it.

Finally, although my opinion may come off as rather strong, I do thank you for your input, and appreciate that you took the time to consider my opinion.

    :)

    Cheers,

A Cats Life Is Just As Important As Mine OR Yours.

Just Because Its A Cat, Doesnt Mean Its Life Isnt Equal To Yours.

    All Lifes Are Important.

It Doesnt matter If Its a Spiders, Or Yours. There ALL Important.

So Please, Next Time You Post Somthing Like This, Please Remember This.

you fuking bastard! animal lives are the same as ours! get ur fucking head out of your ass!

Wait – what? You’ve never stepped on a spider out of fear, eaten a hamburger out of hunger, or drowned a puppy out of need for amusement? I don’t think *I’m* the strange one here..

Animal lives are NOT the same as human lives. This is why slaughterhouses that produce hamburgers and sausages are morally acceptable, and Auschwitz is not acceptable. Animals eat other animals, humans just happen to eat ALL other animals. Put another way – if you had to choose between your child and your pet, which would you save?

    HUMAN RIGHTS VS CAT RIGHT!wow

  7. Evan Says:

Ah Tuzi – next time I am in Shanghai we should go out to eat some cats =)

Yes, man has dominion over the earth and over the animals. When has it ever been acceptable to abuse animals? Sociopaths and psychopaths are very closely associated according to mental health specialists. The teen appears to have no remorse and feels he has done nothing wrong. As one person said before, Dahmer started out abusing animals and then moved on to humans. Animal rights groups were established to protect innocent animals from those who have no regard for life. Some people view animals like young children, helpless. Animals need for humans to protect them and many take on that role of saving and helping them. It is called being a compassionate and caring person. Most animals will give unconditional love. Can most humans give that type of love? The answer is No. How many times has someone been screwed over by a cat? My daughter and I raised feral kittens and domesticated them into wonderful loving pets. I feel the teens vicious behavior deserves incarceration for a long time. Cats may not be important to some, but the fact is the teen ENJOYED killing the cats – which is the sign of a very sick individual.

Yes yes – killing animals in nasty ways is bad, except of course for cows and other livestock – then it’s OK to slaughter them en masse (in some cases skinning them while they’re still alive) and eat them / wear them / sit on them.

The fact that cats and dogs can be pets really doesn’t change the fact that they’re animals, and as such, their lives are not on a level of value even remotely close to that of human life.
